Any time anything soaks into anything, it is filling interstices on either the molecular or larger level. Any filling of interstices increases density, thus transmissibility of vibration; and I'd guess this would help vibrations pass more rapidly and efficiently in all directions along the bridge ( even if only on its surfaces) and eventually to the board, improving efficiency of sound production.
