Hi Everyone,I went to tune an old Whitney spinet yesterday. Before I could tune it I said that we needed to correct the lost motion. It was so bad it felt like someone took the soft peal and held the pedal down or almost that bad. I checked the pedal and it was adjusted fine. The lost motion on this particular one was adjusted with the little screw at the end of the key that turned this thin wire connected to the sticker. Some of the screws were tight, and so tight that a sticker broke and the screw on the other broke off the wire. I didn't even crank them knowing they were fragile parts. I was extra careful and a probelm ensued. Long story short, I suggested they get a different piano and we are going to explore that after tax time. This was one of the groupon customers. So my question is, is this avoidable. Is there a way to loosen up these screws and wires so that they move freely without breaking the wood flimsy stickers the are attached to? On my third piano of the day, I encountered a Baldwin spinet with at least one tight bushing in the sticker guide rail. Does Goose juice serve as a good remody? What I find interesting is how do pedals get out of adjustment and damper felts fall off if the piano is rarel played? I was told that it used to be played more but upon inspecting the hammers they didn't seem too grooved. The piano was in pretty good shape over all. ThanksHave a good oneMarshall
