These appear to be "pressure zone" or maybe "boundary" mics - these are not "contact" mics or "pickups" - they'll likely exhibit nearly 100% rear rejection - although messy, these mics will probably sound orders of magnitude better (more accurate) stuck to the underside of the lid, opened or closed - alternately on a reflective floor directly under the piano Whichever way you go, let your ear decide on proper placement (sounds good? You did it right. Sounds bad? You did it wrong.) Personally, I wouldn't let anything touch the sound board. In my experience, doing so has an audible negative effect.
