An interesting story. Just speculating, but I think part of the reason of the indifference on the part of the salesmen might be that there are people in China making so much money that they will buy anything without much thought to what they are buying.

Here in Hawaii, tourism from China is becoming a huge business. Thousands of them are coming here every week to spend a lot of money. On average Chinese visitors are spending 10% to 20% more than tourists from other Asian countries, and almost 30% more than visitors from the mainland. (an average of $350 per day).

I came across an interesting article on one persons experience visiting numerous piano stores in China.  It is a very interesting observation and illustrates the huge difference in retail philosophy.
