On the other hand, sometimes it's the band new parts that don't quite fit, and if you had salvaged parts from an old action of the exact make and model, that could save a lot of bother. Where, for instance, would one get a new action part for the Johann Jacob Bender action with the curly-wurly wippen that I posted a picture of some weeks ago! Point taken about brittleness though. Maybe there is a middle ground between running the salvage idea as a business in its own right, and simply scrapping all the parts.
