Well Jason, the reality of it is that there are indeed some ETD-only tuners who do not understand anything other than where to put the needle. And there are indeed some aural-tuning RPT's who are only doing marginal aural-only RPT qualifying tunings on a day to day basis, missing octaves and massacring up the top octave or two. We won't get into the grandfathered Craftsman status, who do not need to attend local meetings nor PTG Conventions, and perhaps haven't in many years.

Then again there are ETD-tuners who are able to create custom styles in where they place their 6:3 vs 4:2 interpolation points... and at least one ETD where one can assign percentage points blending up to three different partial targets for various octaves, as encouraged by the late Virgil Smith... and those same ETD-tuners can produce ultimate matching of two "same make, same model" pianos on stage where few aural tuners can approach such exactness, much less the day to day quality tunings. And there are, as well, RPT's who continually strive each & every piano to produce Concert Tunings, and improve their skills by sharing w/ others, attending and even teaching in PTG seminars, and work at the local Chapter level to help all PTG members improve themselves. There are the Jim Coleman Sr's attending the National Convention seminars, who when I asked him why he was sitting in on a Don Mannino seminar, he remarked that he always found new ideas or remembered one's he had forgotten.

Continuous Process Improvement.

Finally, an intelligent, factual answer. That should end all the bull (my way is better than your way) being tossed around . But I'm sure there will be some moron what will dispute it.
