I just don't think it is necessary to drive myself totally nuts, just to figure ut which chord is beating faster or lower - and - counting the beats !!!!! That's a shame Duaine, that listening to beats drives you nuts, because listening to the beats, and making slight corrections to make the piano "sing", is what makes my job fun. If all I had to do was make the lights stop, tuning a piano would be very boring, and that would probably drive me nuts. To each his own, I guess Wim PS. regarding David's comments. There us some validity to what he is saying, but that is not what this discussion has been about. -----Original Message----- From: Duaine Hechler <dahechler at att.net> To: pianotech <pianotech at ptg.org> Sent: Thu, May 10, 2012 9:10 pm Subject: Re: [pianotech] Old can of worms (was Re: tunelab vs verituner) On 05/11/2012 12:17 AM, tnrwim at aol.com wrote: SO, YES, PEOPLE, I do do a certain amount of checks - just not pecifically the "aural tuning" checks. Duaine Well Duanie, what do you think you're listening to when you tune an octave? on't you "here" a wow wow of some sort? I'm not sure if you realize it, but that is what we refer to as the beats. <snip> Maybe the reason you can't "here" the beats is because you don't know what to isten for. Play a C3 -0 E3 third, and tell me what you hear. If the piano is tuned properly, it's called the atural vibrato of the piano. Wim ES, I HERE THE BEATS. I just don't think it is necessary to drive myself totally nuts, just to figure ut which chord is beating faster or lower - and - counting the beats !!!!! From here, refer to David Love's post. He sums it up nicely.
