hi Gregor,

If you get the Journal, that gauge is featured in the January '09 TT&T column.  Jack Houweling made it and handed it to me during the convention in Anaheim. I promptly forgot  and later  posted the picture and question.

Long time ago somebody posted in this list a photo of a regulating gauge. It was a transparent bar with magnets to fix on the strings. The thickness of that bar was that of the typical half blow of upright dampers. The original poster found that thing somewhere in his shop and could not remember where he got that from. That produced some funny answers ("you got that from me but forgot to pay the bill....").
 
Anyway, does anybody have that picture? Is it a gauge that is sold by a piano supply?
