I have found a terrific cleaning agent that takes off all the grime
and tar and nicotine in seconds and can be done in the piano. Use Dow
scrubbing Bubbles bathroom cleaner. I recently used it on a Chickering
with such grime and corruption, cat vomit, and mouse dirt that I
nearly junked the piano. It cleaned up so well, the plate does not
need re-bronzing. I have been using this for about 3 years. It can be
used on any part of the piano except the action. I can't recommend it
more.

Subject: [pianotech] Cleaning cast iron frame

Hi,
Apologies to ask this basic question again.
1. After removing strings from the plate, what is a safe way to clean
the grease and grim on the plate without scarring it?
Thanks!
Lim
