Presuming the plate is being  re-bronzed I suggest Tsp and water and a scrub brush. We do this out of the piano and out side.
 In side with no finish soap and water.

Lim,  Is the plate in or out of the piano?  Do you plan to do anything 
to the finish after cleaning?
