You know Rob? (rhetorical question) I've been thinking about sending a polite heads up e- mail the night before before the appointment, first as a reminder to say....hey,..remember?...I'm coming,... and second...... please make sure that : 1.The piano is to be cleaned off. I'm not the janitor. 2. I need it to be quiet, so no vacuums vacuuming, no tvs blaring, No loud talking, no garage bands practicing, or leaf blowers blowing and no small packs ofdoggies barking or in the vicinity, smelling, barking, licking, and................................. no partridges in a pear tree squawking either,.... especially Cockatoos, yikes...... I mean really..... .... argghhhh with all due unhappiness! Oh yeah and can we please get some lights in this room with the piano!!! I mean whats up with this.? Yesterday I worked for a really nice lady...with 3 dogs,... and the barking as I walked in. Holy cats..... I had to hold my ears till she got the message. After that I was less crabby and we had a good time. Rob...I was bit in the calf this year by an Australian shepherd. Almost broke skin even thru the Levis. My leg was hurting later though. Hey and this is a dog who knows me. I got bit by a poodle 20 years ago whilst picking up a case part off the floor. Pit Bull ? I'd need a change of underwear. Kidding aside--I love dogs and am generally not nervous around them but those pitbull types do make me wary. As to the poodle incident , the little sucker grabbed on to my hand for just a second. The skin was not broken but the next day my hand felt like it had been closed in a car door. Imagine what could happen with one of those big dogs. You a lucky Dude. I had a lot of work on a 1967 Wurlitzer console. It had a couple of broken strings, I repinned a few flanges, reshaped the hammers, etc. While putting the action back in, I was trying to get the dowels for the pedals to seat in their respective spots on the action. So here I am, flat on my back on the carpet under the the piano with my hand reaching under to fit the dowel, when I look to my left and I see that the wife has just let their Pit-bull into the house. I'm looking at him from about 20 feet away through the legs of the piano bench when he decides I must be an intruder. He starts growling and snarling and running towards me. I'm sure the surge of adrenaline helped me to get off my back and on my feet quicker than I have in probably 20 years! I grabbed the legs of the piano bench on the way up and tilted the seat bottom directly at the dog, creating a nice wooden barrier between me and the salivating and barking Pitbull. The owners came running out and it took them several tense minutes (seconds?) to get him under control and back outside. And I didn't even get a tip... ;-) Regards, Rob McCall McCall Piano Service, LLC www.mccallpiano.com Murrieta, CA 951-698-1875 -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
