(larger pic available if needed) The unequal speaking lengths aren't the cause of the false beats. That's a "feature" to try to make the dead killer octave area more lively. If you press a screwdriver blade against the bridge pin of the beating string, you'll probably find the false beat quits. It's a flagpoling pin. The nearest thing to a fix will be a drop of CA glue at the base of the pin to fill the ovaled out hole and stop the flagpoling. Ron N
