Dean, thanks for the response and I did try tripping the jacks against their stops with the hammers raised and got no noise, that lead me to the knuckle/repetition lever and I slipped a thin piece of cloth between them, and it quit making noise.

Working on a Kohler & Campbell grand model SKG-500S s/n IQGG0500? 
The action has a real noticeable noise on key return.? I think I've 
isolated it to the hammer knuckle.... used a piece of action cloth 
between the knuckle/jack, the noise disappeared, remove it and it 
returns.? Is there anything that can be done to lessen the noise, shy of replacing the knuckle?
