It's just a thick shellac mix. It was commonly used in players, sealing 
the porosity of wooden parts and sealing wood to metal parts that were 
screwed together. It doesn't have the strength of Titebond or hide glue, 
but is good for low stress uses where wood glues won't stick well. I use 
it for not only player work, but gluing felt on plates, and bedding 
counter bearing bars (if I don't pin them) so they are less likely to 
shift around chipping strings up to pitch. It'll glue a leather pad to a 
shift lever too. I keep a squeeze bottle of the stuff in the shop, and 
find I use it far more than I would have expected.

It's about time again for someone to post about a soundboard decal 
curling up and touching the strings, asking what to glue it down with. 
This'll work for that too.
