I think this guy must have had the special hammer;  about four of the seven hammer butts with the .063 center pins had splits in the maple intersecting the bushing on one side.  The former "repair man" probably found them too loose on one side, so he must have gone up to the .063 pin to fit that side without bothering to ream out the bushing on the other side to match, thereby splitting the surrounding wood.

I checked the Schaff catalog, and they do sell #25, as does Pianotek (which also has a #26!), though my Pianotek centerpin case only goes up to 24.  But, I had suspected that the ones I found might have just been a piece of wire, as they were crudely cut on both ends (around here, we usually get individual center pins with a point at one end and a smooth or rounded cut at the other, as opposed to the long pointed rods I have read are used in Europe...).  In any case, they are now repaired, rebushed and happily living with #20 center pins again.
