I handed out copies of Susan's compilation of lubricants from her article on that subject to my students this morning, and was compelled to announce to them the news of the author's sudden and tragic death, to acknowledge her contributions to our profession--it brought me to tears in front of my students. I was struck anew by how great those articles of Susan's were, month after month. They really stand the test of time. One really bad second on a motor scooter has shocked us ... and who knows what Susan would have done with a few more years? ... but I think I'd prefer it to what some people have to go through in their advancing years. The scooter she was driving hydroplaned out of control in a heavy storm, and she was killed instantly. Susan was a teacher to all of us, one of the founders of our profession.
