Dear Virgil, thank you for all of your kind suggestions, ideas, encouragement, and your highest professionalism. It was great to be a part of your Chicago Chapter (before moving to St Louis), and together w/ Stan Ryberg (Chicago Newsletter Editor & co-conspirator), we enjoyed every Technical Presentation you gave.

And you gave freely, with enthusiasm, and shared many an idea, regardless of controversy. You challenged us, you were always happy to be our "on-site reference"... even to Dr Al Sanderson, who consulted you in a PTG Convention session.

You will always be a legend, and yet were always very personable. We will miss you, but we'll always remember you. And we will try to live up to your high standards & ideals.

I can hear heaven's pianos being tuned as I write... Bill Fritz, St Louis Newsletter Editor

Sad news. Virgil Smith passed away this morning. He had given up tuning and auctioned off all of his tools a few years ago. He was mentally active up to the end and even came to meetings on occasion, when someone would bring him and his wheel chair. Virgil gave much time, effort, and devotion to PTG and did all he could to help bring up the standards of tuning and voicing. He will be missed here, but has rejoined many of his loved ones in the better place.
