[pianotech] service contract

For me, in Michgan, I like September, usually the beginning of the season
for churches, schools etc. Again in December for the holidays and after a
severe weather change here. Again in March, sometime before Easter and
again in about mid June after the summer weather (usally) has settled in a
bit.

On a 4 tunings per year basis, what are the best months to tune a piano? I
know the location would have much to do with the months selected, but I'd
like to know what the majority of techs do.

Subject: [pianotech] service contract

Good morning all,

One of my clients, a church, has asked me to write up a service contract. I
have never done this before (normally I just phone to arrange the tunings
every four months), but I was thinking a contract might look something like
this:

(on company letterhead)

Service contract between John Doe Piano Service and First Self-
Righteous Church

John Doe Piano service agrees to provide 12 tunings during the calendar year
2011 to First Self-Righteous Church, at a rate of $xx per tuning. The
turnings will be done quarterly, with three tunings to be provided on or
about the first business day of March, June, September and December. First
Self-Righteous Church agrees to remit quarterly payments by check in the
amount of (3 times $xx), payable within 14 days after the tunings have been
done. This rate is guaranteed through Dec. 31, 2011 and includes tuning
only.

_______________ (John Doe's signature)

_______________ (signature of church treasurer)

How does that look? Should I add or delete anything? I suppose I will
print out something like this and arrange to meet with the folks at the
church, give them the opportunity to suggest any changes, and then print two
copies of the final version to be signed, one for my files and one for them
to keep.

Thanks,
