Hi Roger,

I've worked with Grotrians and I think I can help you.

the numbers at the bridge are the mm. So 7 3/4 (0.775mm) is the 13 wire number we use. 11 in the tenor is (1,100mm) wire 19,5

0,775 is the same as 7 3/4 is wire 13
0,800 8 13 1/2
0,825 8 1/4 14
0,850 8 1/2 14 1/2
0,875 8 3/4 15
0,900 9 15 1/2
0,925 9 1/4 16
0,950 9 1/2 16 1/2
0,975 9 3/4 17
1,000 10 17 1/2
1,025 10 1/4 18
1,050 10 1/2 18 1/2
1,075 10 3/4 19
1,100 11 19 1/2

Hi Roger! I'm sorry, but I don't have any Grotrians here to work with or check. I was trying to send you a personal note, but your old e-mail doesn't work. Please send me the current one

Best of Luck.

I'm restring a 1919 Grotrian grand piano that has been previously re-strung by someone who obviously didn't follow the original wire gauge marked on the bridge. The wire size numbers marked on the bridge start with 7 3/4 in the treble and end at 11 in the tenor. Does anybody know the conversion formula for these numbers? Also, would the temper of this original wire be significantly different from the current wire produced?
