Why don't you mic the strings,and get your own numbers? Then make a decision if you want to rescale it, or not.

I'm restring a 1919 Grotrian grand piano that has been previously re-strung by someone who obviously didn't follow the original wire gauge marked on the bridge. The wire size numbers marked on the bridge start with 7 3/4 in the treble and end at 11 in the tenor. Does anybody know the conversion formula for these numbers? Also, would the temper of this original wire be significantly different from the current wire produced?
