This was a case of arson. The police have no leads yet. The Pastor has been there for >30 years. Membership has diminished from 250 to ~45. It would be nice to have insurance, but there might not have been funding. Now they face replacing the building. I do not see how they can afford to do it. The Pastors mother donated the piano 20 years ago. Now they have nothing. Wim On a side note, I know it's expensive, but this is a very good reason to have the necesary insurance, on not only for your house, car, business, but also you life and for your health. You never know when it will be needed. -----Original Message----- From: chip tuthill <chiptuthill at yahoo.com> To: piano Tech <pianotech at ptg.org> Sent: Thu, Sep 2, 2010 12:15 pm Subject: [pianotech] Beyond Hope I went today to examine a "smoke" damaged piano. At least that was the description. When I arrived the Pastor explained that the lid was open during the fire. The building was totally gutted. The firemen soaked the piano destroying the instrument. The piano, a ~20 y.o. Young Chang G185 was a total loss. Unfortunately the church had no insurance on the building or its contents. I did not charge for my time, asking only the pastor recommend my services to others. The photo's tell the sad tale. Chip Tuthill Tuthill's Piano Service Mancos.
