[pianotech] key leveling with a curve

Hi Dale,

1/32 is splitting hairs. I go a little more than that. More like 1/16th. I'm still using the same straight edge I used at Steinway over 40 years ago. I keep it in a box I made to protect it, but I did need to clean it up once with one swipe of a very sharp plane. It also needs to be at a slight angle so it doesn't fall back when it sits on the keys. We had a jig at Steinway to shape or clean them up, but I didn't want to go through the trouble of making one, so I protect the one I have.

The other side of my key leveling stick is straight, which I use for what I call flat top key leveling. You know, to level those other pianos. .

By the way......FWIW.... 1/32 nd of an inch is right at .8 mm or .031 thous....... splittin hairs?
Nothing wrong with doing it either way. Have done it both myself. Just have to find the perfect warped stick:)
