Hi Dale, 1/32 is splitting hairs. I go a little more than that. More like 1/16th. I'm still using the same straight edge I used at Steinway over 40 years ago. I keep it in a box I made to protect it, but I did need to clean it up once with one swipe of a very sharp plane. It also needs to be at a slight angle so it doesn't fall back when it sits on the keys. We had a jig at Steinway to shape or clean them up, but I didn't want to go through the trouble of making one, so I protect the one I have. The other side of my key leveling stick is straight, which I use for what I call flat top key leveling. You know, to level those other pianos. .
