I've had an Oreck for many years. Came with the wife's upright vac. I have to wear hearing protection when I use it. It sucks and blows good, but I wouldn't use in someone's home as it is too noisy. I use a Hoover PortaPower. I have 3 of them. Uses a cloth bag, so you don't need to buy those paper bags. Not as powerful as the Oreck, though. I've never tried picking up a bowling ball with the Hoover, but I don't doubt the Oreck will do that. It's more about air flow than suck power.

My old one just gave up the ghost! I've been looking at Oreck. I'll try this one. Can it really pick up a bowling ball? My son uses a 15lbs for his bowling team. I will certainly try it.
thanks
Paul
