Inre desk glides: I'm wondering how far in these go and what would be the best method of repair? The mortise is ususally less than 1/4" deep, but you can easily find out with a chisel of the same width. Just go ahead to the bottom of the thing. It may be easier to remove the remainder of the glide in one piece. I have found the easiest way to take these out is to use a hardwood block about 3"x1"x 6". It must have sharp 90 degree corners. I hold it tightly and vertically against the inner rim, so that I have 3" of the glide under the block and give it a very sharp, light rap with a small hammer. Go up and down the length several times and you will usually be able to wiggle it a little. Keep on like this and it will eventually pop loose, intact, leaving a clean mortise. It may take 3 minutes of rapping, but with the right force, the glue joint will break before the wood, (assuming it hasn't been put in with Tight-bond or epoxy).
