Thank you Roger.  I thought about the possibility you mention, but seemed strange that
several units acted the same way, although they should if in fact the humudity is very low
in our area. Obviously, I live in the same area as my customer, but he had this problem 
before, and didn't dare use it .  I will be doing some more checking , and hopefully
will come up with answer. If I do, I'll be sure to tell anyone who might be interested, of
the result.  Thanks again to all who took the time to answer.

  We are certainly concerned about a possible series of defects you have experienced.  Generally speaking, our electro-mechanical sensor has a switching mechanism that only allows AC to be supplied to either the humidifier outlet or the dehumidifier outlet at any given time.  Perhaps because the climate has been dry, you are always seeing the sensor in the humidification mode.  Regarding the customer who found the dehumidifier on all the time, Roger Jolly and I published an article in the July 2008 PTG Journal titled The Performance of Dampp-Chaser Systems under Extremely Dry Conditions.  One of the points here was that in environments where relative humidity stays below 20% for a significant amount of time a single humidifier system in a grand piano may not supply enough moisture to turn the cycle on the humidistat.  One would observe the humidifier running all the time.  Here we recommend a dual humidifier system or the addition of a string cover and undercover to a single humidifier system.

    Recently I've had some defective units I've tried to check out.
    Seems that the problem was the same with about 4.  The "Dehumidifier"
    outlet on the sensor didn't work. There was A/C on the humidifier, but
    not on the " DE " side.  One  customer unplugged his unit,  because the 
    humidifier stayed on all the time.  Checked some used units in my shop 
    that had the same result.  Are there common problems  with these things.
    Or , things that generally go wrong more often ?  Are they repairable ,or 
    must the sensor be replaced ? 

    These seem like weird questions to me, too.
