If freehand, it will be pretty much the same diameter, and likely less round. Some surface fibers will be chewed in the process, which will make for more gluing surface, but the difference in the bond strength for a dowel through a glue joint will be negligible. Titebond as a gap filler in this instance is more than adequate for the job. Ron N
