"I wonder who has figured out a way to make DC systems less defeatable. 
Tom Gorley mentioned in a chapter meeting wrapping the cord near the 
plug with twine and tying same securely to the outlet cover, so that 
someone would have to go to some trouble to unplug the DC cord. Any 
other thoughts on this?"

Tom ,
Change the outlets to a "locking" type outlet. I use them in tool applications, so that nothing, short of major human intervention, will unplug the darned things. These plugs have three prongs, (actually blades), rather than two + a ground configuration. Of course nothing else can be plugged into them, except that configuration. There are many different types of plugs available at your local hardware/electrical stores. Check it out.<G>
