    Here is another version of the "Zapper" using two small soldering irons (Radio Shack).  You can use a single iron and go in from one side, then the other, but using two cuts the time in half.  You will need to use some means of controlling the voltage as the irons get too hot and burn the wood.  Harbor Freight has a cheap one or try a dimmer switch of the proper capacity.
