I've been out this morning, and I see Jurgen beat me to it. 
I've had key sets that "doinked" like xylophone bars. Taking 
the stack clear off and pushing down quickly on the capstan 
would almost make the same noise as with the stack on.  The 
layered back rail cloth is a good thing to try, as it helps. I 
never did find a complete cure, and haven't been cursed with 
one for a while to try again. Was the noise there before the 
key buttons were changed?
