I seem to recollect, that when centre pins were put in a container with Protek, that the Protek turned green.
  Could this relate?

Well, It is verdigris on the ends. I would certainly apply Protek and see what happens.

Same question I posed to Ilvey-san. If it's verdigris, and only on the ends, where's the friction problem?

Yeah, they'll get all the options. I said I'd label them good, better and best (if there are that many). :-)

That's a beauty, Barbara. If you are going to file the hammers and repin, you will make it sound a heck of a lot better than it does. Of course that will include aligning with the strings some regulation and voicing. It might be worth the comparison for the owners of new parts (might be able to get Hammer, Shanks and Flanges read to go) and what you can do with no warranty.
