OK. Still with 15 - 45 lbs of torque somebody screwed up in the drilling
and you should advise the seller immediately and get them replaced. What
kind of pianos?

Yes it is multi, not multi as in Delignit. 7 ply to be exact.

Are you sure they aren't multi-ply maple blocks? I've never heard of a pin
block that's just a single piece of maple.

Thanks David for your response. My torque readings vary from 15-45 inch
pounds. Setting the pin is difficult not because of flagpolling, but rather
the pin turning loose. The blocks are maple, not multi-ply. Thanks, James.

Sorry, didn't finish. Probably about 60 lbs is minimum but on a new piano
you'd like to see around 90 - 120 but there is quite a range.

What kind of pianos, what is the torque (if you know), when you say
difficult to set do you mean that minimal back pressure causes the pins to
move or are they flagpolling? There is no industry standard as the pinblock
material and pinblock drilling practices will cause a wide range of torque
readings.

Dear members:

I have recently purchased several new pianos and discovered during the
initial tunings what I believe to be minimal tuning pin torque. The pins
feel "spongy" and difficult to set. Is there an industry standard for pin
torque, and if so, what should that torque value be in inch pounds? Any data
on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
