A friend of mine from the Boston Chapter of the PTG came over this morning and diagnosed and corrected the problem with the C6 key on my Yamaha piano. This was the problem I described in earlier emails when the note played intermittently and stopped sounding during fast repetitions. We took the whippen assembly out for C6 and found that the jack was not moving freely enough due to the pin in the hole being too tight. He removed the center pin, reamed and burnished the holes slightly and installed a new pin. He also found that the repetition lever spring was too weak and bent it slightly to increase the tension. He demonstrated the tools that are used and the necessary technique. This corrected the problem and the note can now be repeated quickly. Small adjustments were made to the letoff, hammer blow distance, hammer drop and hammer lift height etc. My friend made a list of tools I need to get in order to make similar repairs if necessary in the future.
