Hi Noah,  I agree with the other comments, about cutting some core 
strands etc.

It's an idea to cut a length of up to a foot, prepare the point as 
discussed, and pull the cord right through to the end, leaving the rest 
of the length with the point still on, ready for the next flange job (by 
which time the point will have further hardened).
