[pianotech] Regulation sequence advice sought

Why, then, do we test an upright model with 3 notes, and pedals, but the
grand model with only one note, no pedals etc.. I've always been mystified
by that. Most of the time in the "real" world, we are hired to work on
grands, so why not 3 note models for the grands??

Give me some justification for this National! Maybe they should be
reversed or have both regulations with 3 notes. Just my 2cents
Paul

But remember he's asking about taking the PTG test and practicing on an
action model! Not a real life situation! Correct?

Hi Michael,

Yes, but you never can tell when you might find yourself confronted with
with MORE than one hammer at a time... ;-)

Al,

I don't think hammer travelling and burning apply to a single note action
model (action models are funny little creatures when compared to real
pianos) because there are no other hammers/shanks to compare to the one
hammer.

Looking forward to your future comments,

Michael, If the dampers are out, I always align the hammer and rough fit
them to the strings before I install the dampers. Makes it a lot easier to
see and line up.

I don't see anything about traveling and burning the hammers in your
procedure. There are other changes I would make, but I just took a lunch
break and I'm right in the middle of regulating an action. I'll look it
over later tonight.
