Hello Lem, You have a " Mathushek Spinet Grand". So named by the Company In fact it is not a grand or a spinet. It is a Square piano. Even though it is actually a rectangle A bit confusing but that is the face of marketing . As far as the strange hammer alignment you should see a 1937 Gulbransen Square. The last of the Spinet Grands was sold new in 1943. The "Spinet Grand" is very different from the average Square. It has a capo bar in the treble and a " modern double escapement action". The action was actually made by the Thayer Action Co. of Chicago Ill. The "Sp. Grand" and the Famous "Orchestral" share the Capo-bar but not the modern action. With the latter having the standard single escapement action. As a side note the Orchestral Is the best Square piano ever made by anybody at anytime. It is triple over-strung and has a fine sound from bass thru the treble. There is a 1936 "Spinet Grand" on display in our Museum now. Everyone deserves a tour of this Museum. As a member of PTG you own part of it. Regards to all Jack Wyatt Dallas Chapter -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
