It's nice to you guys out there that actually LIKES to service these old beasts. So why do you keep whining about it. Enjoy the profits that other techs don't like to do. There's plenty of grands for us "snobby" techs! Calm down! How are you at Disklaviers? Paul From: Duaine Hechler <dahechler at att.net> To: pianotech at ptg.org Date: 04/28/2010 02:23 PM Subject: [pianotech] Speaking of players ....... it takes a lot of time, SKILL and PATIENCE to rebuild one of these. Sure, regular (and players) have to have the standard regulation, etc BUT players also have to be AIRTIGHT as much as possible. This takes EXTRA SKILL and PATIENCE http://www.hechlerpianoandorgan.com/rest_player_cable.html As in this picture, like in the regular piano action, there are - 88 - of these little valves that have to rebuilt - along with every thing else. Plus, when the valve is in place, there has to be a specific clearance of play - which is - 0.035" Times 88 So let's break this down, from left to right: 1) a leather punching - with the proper thickness, outside diameter, and inside diameter. 2) a felt punching - with the proper thickness, outside diameter, and inside diameter. 3) a fibre disk - usually - reusable 4) a leather washer - tight enough on the valve stem to be used as a "nut" to aid in regulation of valve height 5) a valve stem - usually - reusable 6) a small leather punching - used as a floating washer 7) a metal backing plate - usually - reusable 8) a leather punching - with the proper thickness, outside diameter, and inside diameter. 9) a metal backing plate - usually - reusable 10) a small leather punching - used as a floating washer 11) a "force fit" collar - NOT reusable - and - getting hard to find 12) a "push up" disk for which the leather pouch pops up to activate the valve -- Duaine Hechler Piano, Player Piano, Pump Organ Tuning, Servicing & Rebuilding Reed Organ Society Member Florissant, MO 63034 (314) 838-5587 dahechler at att.net www.hechlerpianoandorgan.com -- Home & Business user of Linux - 10 years -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
