I saw Freddie Cole play at Yoshi's in Oakland about 15 years ago. I sat in the first row. He is not able to use 2 of the fingers on his left hand, possibly a stroke or an accident. From his playing you would never know it. Great musician. The entire experience was very enjoyable, no ego's to deal with just 4 very down to earth musicians who know they are very accomplished at what they do and don't need to be dismissive to those who live & work in small towns. The venue was the local state university, the Student Activity Board had brought them in, the audience was about 2/3 locals 50 years old & up the rest students. The room seats about 500 and it was perhaps 1/2 full but the quartet gave an outstanding performance. After the performance Mr.Cole autographed CD's for those who asked and his muscicians stayed onstage talking with the students, discussing career ideas, musical techniques, etc. I would highly recommend this group if any of you are looking for a good act to recommend. If any of you find yourselves in the situation of tuning for Mr. Cole, look forward to it, he's easy to please.
