Greetings List, I came across a 5'6" Baby Grand that has "Haynes" stenciled on the fallboard. Nothing on the soundboard or anywhere else to give me any other information. It has a serial number of 4429. This number is repeated in several places. However, this number doesn't match up at all with the Haynes, NY pianos in the Pierce Piano Atlas, or anything else that says Haynes in the book. The owner thinks it's from 1931, but I found a pencil mark on the side of the action that has a date marked 11/17/25, so I'm thinking that might be the date or close to it. Anyone ever come across one of these? Do you have an idea of the date it was made? Does this have any intrinsic value? It's in desperate need of new strings and tuning pins (lots of rust), pinblock, new hammers/shanks/flanges, rebuild the action, etc. The soundboard appears to be intact yet the bass bridge is about to splinter into 1,000 pieces. The case was refinished about 10 years ago and looks nice, but the innards, well... suck. I'm trying to ascertain for my client if it's worth rebuilding the insides but it's hard to find out any info about this particular piano. Any help would be appreciated. By the way, there's a strong emotional bond with this piano and it's owners. She took lessons on it as a child, etc. so I know that'll affect their decision, but I wanted to give them some logical input as well. Thanks! Rob McCall Murrieta, CA
