Todd, you may very well find that you are not permitted to take it on with you as carry-on. You may have to check it in as Hold baggage. Trade tools are among the items that are not permitted in the cabin. Coming back from France, I was permitted my tuning lever as carry-on by a dubious Air France staff member, but on the London to Glasgow flight, I was made to check it in as Hold baggage.
