[pianotech] O.T. What do you do to keep fit?

I'm also a cyclist, but I can no longer pigeonhole myself into road riding. I've taken up off-road riding, and it's a blast...as long as I stay upright. Can't afford accidents when you're self-employed.

During a typical week, I'll ride 10-14 hours or so (150-200 miles), mostly up local hills and mountains, then back down again. I road raced for 10 years, but it's a real time suck.

While working on pianos can't be considered exercise, there is quite a bit of physical stress involved. I find that when I'm fit, it's a helluva lot easier to tune 4-5 pianos daily five days a week. Plus, it's a lot easier to eat what I want without gaining big time lbs.:-)

I also employ Conrad's workouts on a regular basis.

The asthma problem has got to be tough to deal with. Anaerobic exercise should be doable, but starting out gradually and increasing intensity would be essential.

I work out with a trainer 2 mornings a week, ride my recumbent bike about 12 miles a week, and do a yoga class every other Sunday. Plus LOTS of
supplements, protein, and organic fruits and veggies.

Like John F., I enjoy road cycling a great deal. However, with kids and goofy schedule, the last year has taken me in a slightly different direction. I spend more time now playing racquetball, and my main focus, Tae Kwon Do/Hap Ki Do. Both Racquetball and Tae Kwon Do provide a very nice conditioning workout, but I've really found a home with Tae Kwon Do. A never ending physical and mental challenge, even with the simplest forms and techniques. I'm not quite to the level of you, PRJ (congratulations, BTW). I'll be testing for green belt in January. Very fun.

My workouts tend to be JUMPING to conclusions, DANCING around big problems, RUNNING my mouth off, SHOVELING bovine processed vegetable matter, STRETCHING what income I do have, DIVING into things which don't concern me, CHASING dreams and RUNNING around like a chicken with it's head cut off looking for the tool that I need RIGHT NOW!!

BTW, I visited REI yesterday and got a new floor bicycle tire pump - those ones that mount on the frame are definitely only for emergency with the high pressure Prestas. I'm also doing my homework prior to getting a canoe or kayak with an idea to doing c/k camping trips.
