This may be a bit controversial...so I'll button up my flame suit. I once attended a class put on by former PTG President and highly regarded RPT Sid Stone. One of the discussions during this two day seminar addressed this very same issue. To clean up the tuning pin area, (sticky substance such as coke/soda) use a can of foam carpet cleaner purchased at any local grocery store. Cover the tuning pin field with the foam and scrub with a brush such as you might use to clean a tile shower. Vacuum up with a shop vac. You can clean up the entire tuning pin field in a few short minutes and it works pretty good. The foam is not wet, it is actually quite dry. No moisture will seep into the bushings especially if you get it on and off quickly. With that said, I used this method a few times on very old, very dirty pianos located at Churches and or schools with very good results. These pianos were probably more like 50 to 75 years old not 15. Don's suggestion of removing the coils and cleaning the area may be the best course with this RX 2 not sure. As I understood there was no rust on the strings or tuning pins present just a sticky mess. Comments????
