They never geared up for producing a lot of them (only one rim press at the factory in New York) - and you won't find too many in dealers' showrooms either. I was once told that company policy has been to produce as few as they can get away with - and push people to the M and L (now O) models. Let's face it, it isn't easy to get good sound out of a 5 foot piano no matter how well built or designed, and Steinway did not want too many of them out there for that reason... At least that's the scoop I got thorough Bill Garlick when he was the Technical Services guy at Steinway (seems like so long ago...)
