[pianotech] Efficient non-destructive hammer removing?

Here's a wondeful ancient technology, still excellent, suggested by John Rhodes:

1) Put a layer of clean sand into a large flat pan. An iron skillet is perfect.
2) Warm the sand.
3) Shove the glue joints into the sand.
4) Discover the right timing pattern for inserting, removing from the sand and twisting off the hammer.

    List,

Any suggestions on efficient methods for removing new hammers non-destructively, for fooling around with strike points, corrections, etc.
