Good quality packing leather works much better for gaskets than cork/rubber.  Packing leather is available from Columbia Organ Leather at:

It comes in .040 and .060 thickness. It is called CCL Pack and CCL Heavy Pack.

I need a decent supply source of a nice resilient 1/16" cork/rubber gasket
