> Julia, Your original question about tugging on the hammer rest rail will give you a test for "degree" of lost motion. If the hammer does not move when lightly tugging on hammer rest rail, then the jack is hard under the hammer butt, and may require a little more lost motion. If the hammer follows the hammer rest rail, then you may have too much lost motion, and need to adjust capstans accordingly.
