[pianotech] WNG Backchecks

Gene-

Lately I have used Abel Natural hammers. They come in several lengths.
I check the string height and flange center height, and calculate the bore distance, then look at what's on the piano and how well it works, fidget and fudge a bit and order the hammers.
I have a tendency to want to maximize blow distance and also like high checking. Sometimes this results in a few tenor hammers that get stuck on the backcheck at rest (The backcheck grabs onto the low shoulder felt.) Longer tails might help there.
The WNG hammer arcing jig puts the arc a little bit further back on the tail than the Spurlock jig. This should give better clearance of the hammers at rest position.
best I can tell, that's what it's like working on pianos.

With a bit of clever mini-woodworking, you can probably add a piece of wood to the hammer tails.

<<Appears to be my only option.

Or, perhaps you can return the hammers for something with a longer molding.

<<What hammer sets do you use? What is a typical overall length for note 25 top bass? My Isaac is 81mm and I need 83

      Hello list,
While trying to get ready for installation of my first WNG Backcheck set I discover that my hammer set (purchased uncut, unbored & uncoved) is not long enough (especially in the upper bass) to get the 25.4mm beyond bore distance.
Anyone else get a chance to work with these yet? Have similar issues?
      Gene
