The police may only be involved because the watch is insured, in which
case the customer is probably a suspect too. The customer was probably
asked who had been in the condo and the police are following leads.
The police may be more interested in knowing if someone is willing to
take a polygraph than in actually giving one. Remember that police are
not required to tell the truth during an investigation.

Nothing like this has happened to me. I think I would take the
polygraph, though. It does not mean much if it indicates lying, but
refusing it may bring you under more scrutiny, and others under less.
