List,

We have a fabulous resource available to us in the archives. Often, however,
it is a challenge to find the information that is needed. Search engines
help, but sometimes real gems in the archives get missed in our searches,
simply because the postings didn't have our specific search terms, or
because so many tangents lead of from useful subject headings.

Occasionally I see a question raised on the list, and someone pipes in,
"This has been discussed so many times before. Check the archives." I
would like to suggest that a more helpful response, especially from those of
us who are "archive-heads" would be to more often post cross references to
particularly helpful posts. Someone did this recently in connection to
breaking glue joints with acetic acid. I learned something very helpful.
Last night I posted a link to an article by Don Manino on bobbling hammers
in response to a current thread, and quickly got a response indicating that
the article was indeed a gem.

Any such cross references we post will also become a part of the archive,
and will serve not only present readers of the archive, but future searchers
as well. Much thanks to those of you who are already doing this.
