  An explanation I got many years ago was that the white is moisture trapped under the finish. Dip the corner of a light rag in alcohol and drag it over the spot using only the weight of the cloth, no more. The finish opens up momentarily and the moisture escapes. The alcohol must have absolutely no water in it.  Most types do not qualify. I'm sorry I cannot give you a name brand. It's been too many years for me.
