Hi List,

I love what Will Truitt wrote. I left it in below. I, too, think it's great that we have different takes on matters, and that we can throw out ideas for others to comment on. Being relatively new to this profession (about 8 years or so now) I've learned SO MUCH from this list, and continue to do so.

A few months back I submitted a bit of my theories of how to regulate without specs, and received some feedback that made me think some more. That was my actual intent at the time. Recently, the topic was re-introduced (by KeyKat88, I think) and somebody said it all sounded rather "propeller-headish" I think was the term. I didn't feel scolded. I didn't think the writer was arrogant. I laughed. It was HIS take on it. Fine. We can all think about things in the way they work for our own realities.

Look for the article in the November Journal. Bring it up and comment some more on it. I'll be presenting a couple of classes on it at the national convention in June. I'd love to have more feedback, good and, especially, critical, to help me further refine my presentation.

And, as a special bonus to all you wonderful subscribers, if you act within the next 10 minutes, I'll DOUBLE
YOUR ORDER!!! No, wait, I mean there was a part of the article that didn't get put in, due to procrastination on my part more than anything. That is, I wanted to make an Excel spreadsheet available of my equations so that you could carry it around with you on your PDAs or Smartphones. After the article comes out (I want you to READ IT first!) I'll post the spreadsheet in a mail to this list.

Many thanks to all of you who have educated me and CONTINUE to educate, entertain, and amaze me here in this forum through my still-steep learning curve.

Cordially,
John Dorr, RPT

WILL's POST BELOW:

I would have to agree with David Andersen. I have followed the thread, and I was surprised to read that you felt others were being arrogant and condescending towards you. They were disagreeing with some of your ideas, and putting forth their reasons why they felt your conclusions were in error. But I did not detect any personal bias in that.

This is a forum where ideas are shared and debated. That almost guarantees that someone is going to disagree with you. But it is not personal. It’s fun!

I’ve posted a few ideas on this forum and had some of them shot down. Not because of any animus towards me, but because my ideas were incompletely developed. Fair enough – I learned something new I didn’t know before, so I’m still the winner at the end of the day. I’m all fo
r the better idea, whether it’s mine or someone else’s.

I’m here to learn, and I try to leave my ego at the door. Be humble and respectful to others and they will be the same towards you. Your presence on the forum can then be a long and enjoyable one.

I say welcome. Relax and enjoy the give and take. Throw it back in. Move the dialog forward. Share your ideas and risk exposing your ignorance occasionally – otherwise you’ll hold onto it forever. And you can also teach us in the process.

Respectfully,

Will Truitt
